Appalachian Power serves about 1 million customers in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee. Its headquarters is in Charleston, W. Va., with regulatory and external affairs offices in both Charleston, W. Va. and Richmond, Va.

Appalachian Power is part of the American Electric Power system, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, delivering electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states. AEP ranks among the nation's largest generators of electricity, owning nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the U.S. AEP also owns the nation's largest electricity transmission system, a nearly 39,000-mile network that includes more 765 kilovolt extra-high voltage transmission lines than all other U.S. transmission systems combined.

AEP's transmission system directly or indirectly serves about 10 percent of the electricity demand in the Eastern Interconnection, the interconnected transmission system that covers 38 eastern and central U.S. states and eastern Canada, and approximately 11 percent of the electricity demand in ERCOT, the transmission system that covers much of Texas.

AEP's utility units operate as AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power (in Virginia and West Virginia), AEP Appalachian Power (in Tennessee), Indiana Michigan Power, Kentucky Power, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and Southwestern Electric Power Company (in Arkansas, Louisiana and east Texas). Allegheny Energy

Allegheny Energy is a utility holding company that has both regulated and unregulated operations. With the implementation of electric deregulation, Allegheny Energy transferred a portion of its generating assets to Allegheny Energy Supply through state-approved plans.

Allegheny Energy owns approximately 9,730 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity. Approximately 95% of its power output comes from coal. Allegheny Energy burns nearly 19 million tons of coal annually.

Allegheny Energy's regulated utilities, doing business as Allegheny Power, are West Penn Power Company (Pennsylvania); Monongahela Power Company (West Virginia); and The Potomac Edison Company (Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia).

Allegheny Energy stock (symbol: AYE) is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Cable Telecommunications Association of W.Va.

The West Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (WVCTA), founded in 1978, represents cable television system operators and affiliated programming services and industry vendors in matters of public affairs and governmental relations throughout the state and in Washington, D.C.

Community Connect Foundation

The Community Connect Foundation was chartered on January 24, 2006 as a nonprofit foundation with a mission of promoting community development and sustainability through the use and adoption of technologies.

Independent Oil & Gas Association (IOGA)

Formed in 1959, the Independent Oil and Gas Association of West Virginia, Inc. is a statewide non-profit trade association representing companies engaged in the extraction and production of natural gas and oil in West Virginia, and the companies and individuals which support extraction activities.

IOGA was formed to promote and protect a strong, competitive and capable independent natural gas and oil producing industry in West Virginia. In 1991, IOGA approved the Mission Statement which better defined the Association’s purpose and goals.

West Virginia Small Public Utilities Association

The West Virginia Small Utilities Association has the following mission at its core:

  • Providing gas, water and electric service throughout the State of West Virginia.
  • Companies pay taxes in West Virginia provide jobs in local areas.
  • Business offices located in service territory where customers can sign up for service, pay bills and talk to representatives.
  • Customer service line answered by company representatives, not an automated machine.
  • Local service crews can respond quickly to service problems.
  • Provide utility service to largely rural areas.

West Virginia Oild & Natural Gas Association (WVONGA)

The West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association, chartered in 1915, is one of the oldest trade associations in the state, and is the only association that serves the entire oil and gas industry. WVONGA members are engaged in exploration, production, transmission, storage, sales and distribution. Our allied members serve the industry through drilling, pipeline construction, well service and oil field service and supply. Our associate members are involved in environmental consulting, legal affairs, financial management, public relations, equipment sales and service and energy marketing.
